Volunteer / Intern Information

What do Volunteers and Interns Do?
Volunteers and Interns are very important to the operation of our agency.  We appreciate each and every person who gives their time to assist our agency. We try to pair our volunteers with an activity best suited to their interests and time commitment, and based on our Interns interest in the field, we try to place them with a program best suited to their requirements and goals.

Volunteer Requirements
Prior to volunteering, a Volunteer Applicant is asked to fill out an application, have an interview, provide her/his driver’s license and social security card, and undergo a background check (including, but not limited to: driving check, credit check and worker’s comp check).

This information is then provided to a committee who will accept or decline the application.  If accepted, the volunteer will set up a schedule for volunteering, as well as agree to participate in the mandatory 16 hour training.  The training is a requirement for volunteers working in the shelter, offsite center, or coutrhouse, in contact with clients, working with donations and the public.

Intern Requirements

Intern Applicants are required to provide us with: a resume, three references, driver's license and social security card, and any pertinent information regarding your internship/practicum obligations, and undergo a background check.

After an interview with the prospective Intern, a committee will accept or decline the application. If accepted, the intern will need to sign the Intern Agreement, as well as participate in the mandatory 16 hour training.
