COUNSELOR ( Masters Level Preferred, B.A. + experience acceptable) Bi-lingual Preferred Salary commensurate upon experience
RESPONSIBILITIES: · Provide counseling services to victims of domestic violence

ADVOCATE RESPONSIBILITIES: · Provide crisis line coverage, answer, handle and/or route incoming calls · Assist staff as needed · Safehouse office coverage, including administrative assistance to staff · Empower residents as they move toward self sufficiency and responsible behavior by involving them in shelter maintenance · Advocate for resident and non-resident women who are victims of domestic violence · Hold clients accountable for following shelter rules and complying with shelter program. · Assist with legal advocacy · Perform and complete intakes and exit interviews as needed · Close files when residents exit · Perform necessary clerical support as assigned · Answer doors and assist visitors upon arrival · Maintain room cleanliness and prepare rooms for new residents. No heavy or overhead lifting. · Receive and record in-kind donations. Clean, sort and store donations. · Attend all appropriate staff meetings, trainings, and in-services · Educate new residents on guidelines for living in the shelter, bedroom contract, room checks · Serve as night back-up for emergencies and intakes as scheduled. · On-call duties as scheduled · Maintain resource file · Facilitate groups if appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS · Bachelors in Human Services area or 3 years equivalent experience · Ability to interact with a variety of people · Knowledge of women’s issues and domestic violence as demonstrated with education and/or experience · Demonstrated knowledge and experience in life skills, parenting, conflict resolution · Demonstrated knowledge of community resources · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the public and community agencies · Must have own transportation and live in the vicinity of AWP · Bi-lingual preferred.
