Volunteer/Intern Corner

What do the Volunteers Do?

Volunteers are very important to the operation of our agency.  We appreciate each and every volunteer and we try to pair up the volunteer with an activity the volunteer would like to do.

Requirements of a Volunteer

Prior to volunteering, a Volunteer Applicant is asked to fill out an application, have an interview, provide her/his driver’s license and social security card, have a background check (including, but not limited to: driving check, credit check and worker’s comp check).  The information is then provided to a committee who will accept or decline the application.  If accepted, the volunteer will set up a schedule for volunteering, as well as agree to participate in the mandatory 16 hour training.  The training is scheduled for August 2007 and January 2008.  These steps are necessary since volunteers will be in the shelter and in contact with clients, as well as working with donations and the public.

Become a Volunteer

If interested in volunteering, please call us at 970-351-0476 or email us at volunteer@awpdv.org to set up an interview time.

Become an Intern

A limited number of interns are accepted each semester.  Intern Applicants are required to provide us with a resume, provide us with three references, fill out an application, have an interview, provide her/his driver’s license and social security card, have a background check (including, but not limited to: driving check, credit check and worker’s comp check).  The information is then provided to a committee who will accept or decline the application.  If accepted, the intern will have to sign the Intern Agreement, as well as agree to participate in the mandatory 16 hour training.  The training is scheduled for August 2007 and January 2008.

If you have a few hours a month to donate or several hours each week, we are happy to talk with you about applying for a Volunteer Position.

Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of our work, we do a background check on all employees, volunteers and interns—which includes criminal, driving, workers compensation claims, and credit.
